Scope and Content Drawing Room, The Homestead (now Malcolm Sargent House), No 22 Links Road, Prestwick, South Ayrshire The Homestead, a large Edwardian villa overlooking the links at Prestwick, was designed by the Ayrshire architect, James A Morris, for a wealthy client. The drawing room, on the first floor of the house, was photographed in 1903 by Harry Bedford Lemere. The room is designed in a Neo-Georgian style with most of the detail concentrated in the cornice and the elaborately embossed frieze. The little window to the left of the fireplace projects out as an oriel in an otherwise plain gable wall. Edwardian walls often displayed an extraordinary mixture of historical styles. Georgian forms were the most popular, and delicate Adamesque swags might accompany early Georgian mouldings, finished off with a Regency Stripe wallpaper. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
