Scope and Content Homestead (now Malcolm Sargent House), No 22 Links Road, Prestwick, South Ayrshire The Homestead, a large Edwardian villa designed by the Ayrshire architect, James A Morris, stands in a splendid position overlooking the links at Prestwick. The house was photographed in 1903 by the architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. The house was designed in a Scottish vernacular style with tall chimneys and a triplet of tile-hung gablets. The principal rooms are all on the first floor to take advantage of the views, and the low service block (right) has a built-in dovecot. James A Morris (1857-1942) was a distinguished architect with an extensive Ayrshire practice. He had a flair for traditional Scottish domestic architecture, and designed several country houses in the area including his own home, Savoy Croft, in Ayr. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
