Scope and Content Homestead (now Malcolm Sargent House), No 22 Links Road, Prestwick, South Ayrshire The Homestead, designed by the Ayrshire architect, James A Morris, is one of several large villas in Links Road built as summer homes for wealthy Glaswegians. This photograph of the house was taken in 1903 by the photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. The house, designed in a Scottish vernacular style, has a roofline with a trio of tile-hung gablets facing over the links. All the principal rooms are on the first floor, with either a balcony or taller windows to gain full advantage from the views. Prestwick lies on the 'sunshine' coast of the Firth of Clyde, some 56 km from Glasgow. The town rapidly developed and prospered in the late Victorian period mainly due to the fashion for seaside summer homes, and the popular sport of golf. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
