Scope and Content Partick Bridge, Dumbarton Road, Glasgow This bridge was constructed in 1877-8 for the Glasgow & Yoker Turnpike Trust to carry a new road with a double horse-tram track over the River Kelvin, supplanting a bridge built in 1800 immediately to the north. The new bridge was designed by Bell & Miller, engineers. This shows the bridge from the north-east, seen from the 1800 bridge, As can be seen the main span of this bridge is skewed, and composed of nine cast iron ribs. The outer ribs have the arms of Glasgow in the eastern, and of Partick in the western spandrels. As well as crossing the river, this bridge also spans the lade to the Bunhouse Mills (later Regent Mills), and there is a small arch over the lade out of sight on the left. Beyond this bridge is a pipe bridge carrying the northern outfall sewer over the Kelvin to the Partick Sewage Pumping Station. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
