Scope and Content Clydebank Municipal Buildings, No 49 Dumbarton Road, Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, from Hall Street Clydebank Municipal Buildings were designed by James Miller as the seat of civic administration for the rapidly expanding burgh of Clydebank. The architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere, was commissioned to photograph the building in 1904. The Hall Street front combines the Baroque style with the Art Nouveau: two squat towers, each with a heavy cornice, project from the main façade, flanking a large arched window above the door, one of the architect's characteristic motifs. Construction began in 1900 and included a town hall and municipal offices, police department, library and burgh court. The corner tower is crowned by the figure of Mercury taken from the entrance of Miller's 1901 Glasgow International Exhibition. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
