The building, designed by Alexander Marshall Mackenzie for the Court of Aberdeen University, was part of major extensions to the college completed in 1906. This magnificent panelled room has a decorated ceiling bearing 18 heraldic crests which record the history of the university since its foundation in 1495. The seats around the long table were designed to accommodate members of the University Court. Members of the court included the Principal, Rector, Vice-Principal and President of the Student's Representative Council and assessors nominated by the Chancellor, Rector, General Council, Senate, City of Aberdeen Council and Aberdeenshire Council.
