Scope and Content Drawing Room, Craighuchty Terrace, Aberfoyle, Stirling Craighuchty Terrace, a row of six houses designed in an English Arts and Crafts style by the Glasgow architect, James Miller, was built c.1890. This photograph of the drawing room of one of the houses was taken by the photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. The room is decorated with a frieze of cherubs who dance and play musical instruments. The musical theme is continued with the half-draped piano, arranged at an angle for the photograph, and the banjo casually displayed on the chair. The Victorian convention of regarding walls as three distinct bands (floor to dado; dado to picture rail; picture rail to ceiling) is strictly followed, with a panelled dado and a wallpaper above that shows the influence of the Arts and Crafts movement.
