Scope and Content Billiard Room, the Royal Clyde Yacht Club (now the Royal Marine Hotel), Marine Parade, Hunter's Quay, Dunoon, Argyll & Bute The headquarters of the Royal Clyde Yacht Club at Hunter's Quay were built in 1888-9 by the Glasgow architect, Thomas Lennox Watson. This photograph of the billiard room was taken in 1890 by the architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. The room, dominated by prominent arched roof-trusses which resemble the keel-shaped profile of an upturned yacht, is lit by a gas light fitting, and simply furnished with raised seating on either side of the fireplace to provide a good view of the table. The Royal Clyde Yacht Club included a clubhouse and adjoining hotel. It offered its members racing facilities for yachts, a cadet section for younger members and a wide range of social activities including formal balls, dinners, slide-shows and talks.
