Scope and Content Fyvie Castle, Aberdeenshire Fyvie Castle, originally dating from the 13th century, was remodelled between 1770 and 1840 by the Gordon family, and a new entrance vestibule created within its original inner quadrangle. The entrance was photographed in 1905 by Harry Bedford Lemere. The carriageway sweeps up into the angle of the magnificent south wing (left), complete with its late Victorian heraldic frontispiece, and the splendid west wing with its single-storeyed entrance vestibule. To the right is the Gordon Tower, added in 1777. Fyvie was originally built as a great quadrangle with a tower at each corner. General William Gordon and his son carried out sweeping changes, including the demolition of the north and east wings, and the building of a new vestibule and the Gordon Tower.
