Scope and Content Drawing Room, No 3 Rothesay Terrace, Edinburgh This photograph of the drawing room of No 3 Rothesay Terrace was taken c.1890 by the photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. The house was remodelled in 1883 by the architect, Sydney Mitchell, for the philanthropist and newspaper owner, John Ritchie Findlay. The room has a splendid painted panelled ceiling, and a chimneypiece with an elaborate overmirror in an arched recess at one end. It displays typical Victorian clutter, with every available surface bearing vases, plates and other objects d'art. The room had views over the Dean Water to Well Court, a picturesque development of workers' houses. Well Court was financed by Findlay and designed by Mitchell to provide his client with an interesting view from the back of the house. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
