Scope and Content View from south of Baker Street, Stirling Baker Street runs between King Street and Bow Street. It contains houses in Scots vernacular style by architect Sir Frank Charles Mears (1880-1953), who was planning consultant to the Burgh. They were designed c.1938, but not built until 1955. This shows some of the houses built of stone or harled with stone margins. The houses have interesting details such as a circular window, Dutch and crow-stepped gables, moulded doorways and an octagonal stair-tower. These houses were deliberately built in mixed styles to give the impression of varied styles of housing built over a long period of time. They are of high quality stonework and designed to blend in with the established mixture of buildings in the area. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
