Scope and Content Detail of fitted cabinet in morning room of Batterflatts, No 4 Polmaise Road, Stirling Batterflatts is an Arts-and-Crafts-style mansion built in 1893 to designs by architect John Allan (practiced 1890-1914). Once the home of the Drummond family, it was used as a Council residential home from 1955 before being converted into flats c.1994. This shows a glass-fronted bookcase set into the wall of the room. The cabinet has double doors with inlaid oval panels, and fine glazing bars decorating the glass above. The piece has pilastered sides and a curving pediment. This elegant bookcase is a late Victorian copy of a Georgian-style piece of furniture. An original example from the late 1790s would have been free-standing, but this cabinet, along with others within the house, is fitted into the wall. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
