Scope and Content View of No 16-18 Ness Bank, Inverness These three linked villas were built c.1846 and form a long U-plan, nine-bayed structure with bowed ends. The central doorway has a pediment at the wall-head above it. The houses are built of stone, and are now partly in use as hotel accommodation. This shows the houses in the late 1950s. The curved bowed ends contain tripartite windows, which are also to be found flanking the central house with its pedimented centre. The doorways have wooden porches, and dormers light the attic rooms. These houses were designed to house the large families of Victorian Inverness and their servants. Today, these properties are in demand for uses as hotels and nursing homes, due to the large numbers of bedrooms and public rooms to be found within. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
