Scope and Content Detail of the doorway between the fernery and the drawing room, Brahan House, Perth Brahan House was built in 1898 to designs by Yorkshire architects Bedford & Kitson. The house was owned by Rufus Pullar and his wife, whose family owned the North British Dye Works in Perth. This Arts and Crafts house was demolished c.1969. This photograph shows the stone doorway with initials above it. The door is set into the wooden panelled walls of the fernery, a special type of conservatory for growing ferns. Through the doorway the drawing room with its plasterwork frieze can be seen. The Pullar family had a textile works in Perth as early as 1819, and later branched out into dry cleaning from 1851. Pullar's North British Dye Works helped supply the enormous demand for mourning wear after the death of Prince Albert in 1861. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
