Scope and Content View from south-west of Brahan House, Perth Brahan House was built in 1898 to designs by Yorkshire architects Bedford & Kitson for Rufus Pullar, factory owner. Within this Arts and Crafts house could be found a billiard room, fernery, cycle store and even a strong room. It was demolished c.1969. This photograph shows the house with its half timbered porch, harled walls and gables with dormer and bay windows. The structure below the tallest chimney-stack is the rear of a vast inglenook fireplace in the billiard room, carved with owls and bats. The Pullar family had a textile works in Perth as early as 1819, and later branched out into dry cleaning from 1851. Pullar's North British Dye Works helped supply the enormous demand for mourning wear after the death of Prince Albert in 1861. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
