Scope and Content View from south of Brahan House, Perth This Arts and Crafts house was built in 1898 by Yorkshire architects Bedford & Kitson. It was the home of Rufus Pullar, whose family owned a vast business empire in Perth based around dyeing and dry-cleaning industries. The house was demolished c.1969. This photograph shows the house with its harled walls, prominent gables and its bay and dormer windows. The chimney features a sundial at the wall-head. The small room with the hipped roof was once a fernery. A fernery was once a very fashionable addition to large houses. It is a conservatory specially designed for growing ferns. These beautiful plants, admired for their lush tropical foliage, need damp and shaded conditions without draughts to flourish. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
