Scope and Content View from east of Brahan House, Perth Brahan House was the home of Rufus Pullar, and was built in 1898 to designs by architects Bedford & Kitson. This grand Arts and Crafts house was filled with vast suites of rooms, including a billiard room with inglenook, a fernery, and a bicycle store. This shows the exterior of the house. The main public rooms on the ground floor include the fernery (left) followed by drawing room, library and dining room (right). The half-timbered gables and tiny attic windows add a picturesque touch to the façade. The Pullar family had a textile works in Perth as early as 1819, and later branched out into dry cleaning from 1851. Pullar's North British Dye Works helped supply the enormous demand for mourning wear after the death of Prince Albert in 1861. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
