Scope and Content View form north-west of Brahan House, Perth Brahan House was designed by Leeds-based architects Bedford & Kitson, and built in 1898 as the home of Perth businessman Rufus Pullar. This large Arts and Crafts house had every convenience, including fernery, billiard room, bicycle store and stables. This shows the house with its harled walls with half-timbered details in the gable (left). A varying roofline and a variety of window sizes and forms add interest to the design, suggesting it has evolved over time, when in reality it was designed as such. The Pullar family had a textile works in Perth as early as 1819, and later branched out into dry cleaning from 1851. Pullar's North British Dye Works helped supply the enormous demand for mourning wear after the death of Prince Albert in 1861. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
