Scope and Content View from south of No 3 Rothesay Terrace, Edinburgh This house was built in 1876 and reconstructed for John Ritchie Findlay, proprietor of 'The Scotsman', in 1883. The architect was Arthur George Sydney Mitchell (1856-1930). The exterior has a careful lack of symmetry in the arrangement of windows. This photograph shows the façade with its prominent bay windows, interesting glazing patterns and cast iron balconies. A carved wooden porch in the Renaissance style is reached by steps over the basement. The attic has dormer windows. The rear rooms of this luxurious house overlook Well Court, a picturesque group of tenements which Findlay had built in 1884. The interior is lavishly decorated with carved panelling in a variety of fine timbers, marble fireplaces and painted ceilings. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
