Scope and Content General oblique view of Gracemount, Edinburgh The three 14-storeyed tower blocks at Gracemount were approved for construction in 1960, and contain 246 flats in total. They were built by Crudens in association with the City Architect's Department, and are called Garvald, Fala and Soutra Courts. This oblique aerial view shows the three tower blocks with low-rise blocks and more traditional housing below them. Stenhouse Burn can be seen snaking across the picture. The large building at the top of the picture is Gracemount Secondary School. Gracemount was once called Priesthill, and the name refers to land belonging to the vicar of Liberton Kirk. The 'mount' part of the name refers to the rise in the ground above the burn. Gracemount Drive was named in 1956. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
