Scope and Content View from east of Home House, No 4 Old Church Lane, Duddingston, Edinburgh Home House was built c.1820, and was originally a two-storeyed, three-bayed house. It was later extended to the east and west. The main harled and colour-washed frontage now stretches to five bays. This photograph shows Home House with its cream-coloured harling and white string-course under the first-floor windows. Cast-iron balconies, railings and a consoled doorpiece add interest to the design. There are many fine villas in Duddingston which would have provided their owners with more peaceful surroundings than those found within the city of Edinburgh itself.
