Scope and Content View from south-west of Glen Arthur, No 8 Old Church Lane, Duddingston, Edinburgh Glen Arthur was built c.1820, and in c.1840 a Neo-Gothic octagonal tower was added to the front and a square tower at the back. Built of ashlar masonry, it is two storeys high, and three bays wide. This photograph shows the house with its prominent castellated tower, complete with fake arrow-slit. The masonry features string-courses to mark the storey divisions and crowstepped gables with an arched window. The house has gate piers with ball finials. This house has several picturesque details which have been added to what was once a rather plain house. The tower, weathervane on the gable end, stone ball finials and consoles all make the exterior more lively and interesting. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
