Scope and Content Coplaw Tram Depot, No 25 Albert Drive, Glasgow This depot and works were built in 1893-4 for Glasgow Corporation Tramways Department in preparation for the Corporation takeover of the operation of the city's horse-tram services in 1894. The depot and the first part of the works were designed by William Clark, engineer. This shows the depot from the south-east, looking across Pollokshaws Road. The five masonry bays constituted the depot, the main entrance to which was in Albert Drive. The covered gangway at first-floor level was for horses to reach the stalls at that level. To the left is part of the later works. When the tramways were electrified in 1901-2 this depot was abandoned as such, The workshops were extended to build and repair electric tramcars, and remained in use until 1962. Part was converted to a transport museum and stores (part now an arts centre) and the rest allowed to decay. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
