Scope and Content Warehouses, Nos 114-28 Howard Street, Glasgow This warehouse was built in 1903, for William Cotterill & Sons, glass merchant. It was designed by Beattie & Morton, architects, to replace an earlier building. In 1902 the firm was described as silverers (patent process), plate-glass merchants, bevellers and decorative mirror frame manufacturers. This shows the warehouse from the north-west. Note the Art Nouveau detailing to emphasise the artistic aspirations of the firm. On the right is part of a leather warehouse, also built in 1903, and on the left a former United Presbyterian church. The construction of this warehouse was part of a revival of this city centre area, first developed in the late 18th century. It may have been encouraged by the extension of St Enoch Station, completed in 1902. In 2002 the building was empty and decaying. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
