Scope and Content Wright's Brewery, North Methven Street, Perth, Perth & Kinross Perth was one of the earliest centres of brewing in Scotland, and had five breweries in 1825. One of these was John Wright, whose brewery in Methven Street was the ancestor of this one, which remained in the ownership of the same family until 1961. This shows the brewery from the north, showing how it was hemmed in by tenements. The building in the centre is the brewhouse, probably of mid-late 19th-century date. Note the large chimney for the boiler house and coppers. John Wright & Co remained independent until 1961, when the firm was taken over by Vaux of Newcastle, probably to secure Wright's tied public houses, for they closed down the Perth brewery almost immediately. It has since been demolished. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
