Scope and Content Slatefield Brewery, Slatefield Street, Glasgow This brewery was built in 1881-4 for Gillespie, Gray & Co, brewers, to designs by P L Henderson, an Edinburgh architect specialising in brewery design. The firm had previously occupied the Crown Brewery in Gallowgate. This shows the brewery from the south-west. As can be seen it was built round a courtyard. The brewhouse was at the far end, its position marked by the chimney. The range on the left was probably the maltings. The brewing industry became very competitive in the years before World War I, and this firm appears to have succumbed at that time. By 1924 it was a bottle store. It was virtually disused in 1968, and demolished soon after. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
