Scope and Content View of bathroom from north-west, No 13 Brandon Street, Edinburgh No 13 Brandon Street was built in 1822 to designs by architect Robert Brown. Until recently it retained a remarkable Art Deco scheme of interior decoration completed 1949-52 by architect Robert Charles Hutchinson. This shows the 1950s bathroom with a pink suite with black border tiling. The mirror-surround has fittings for toothbrushes and beaker. The window has a hinged shutter. The wallpaper, also c.1950, features a design of flamingos to match the suite. This bathroom with its fitted pink suite was very fashionable when it was installed in the 1950s. It is rare for wallpapers like this example to survive without being papered over. Many people find traces of interesting old wallpapers while re-decorating. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
