Scope and Content Library, No 2 Lancaster Crescent, Kelvinside, Glasgow No 2 Lancaster Crescent, a moderately sized terraced house built c.1898 on part of the Redlands estate, was designed by the architect, James Miller. In 1901 the architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere, was commissioned to photograph the interior. The library is dominated by a huge carved overmantel, and the arrangement of glass-fronted book shelves on either side matches the oak panelling around the walls. The room is lit by a small pendant electric light with a cut-glass shade. Harry Bedford Lemere (1864-1944) worked under commission for architects and private owners. He often arranged the interiors to be photographed, plumping out cushions and carefully positioning ornaments until the photographic composition was right. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
