Scope and Content Drawing Room, No 2 Lancaster Crescent, Kelvinside, Glasgow No 2 Lancaster Crescent, one of nine houses linked in a terrace, was designed in 1898 by the architect, James Miller. The drawing room, the most elegant room in the house, was photographed in 1901 by the architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. This light-coloured room has decorative plasterwork around the windows and plaster pendants on the ceiling. The attractive bay window has a built-in window seat overhung by a simple pendant electric light. The standard lamp was used for reading or sewing. The Edwardian drawing room was the ladies' territory of the house, and was usually light-coloured and fairly uncluttered. Armchairs were often covered in chintz, with a minimum of bric-a brac around the room and pictures on the walls. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
