Scope and Content Drawing Room, No 2 Lancaster Crescent, Kelvinside, Glasgow No 2 Lancaster Crescent, a moderately sized terraced house built c.1898 on the north side of Great Western Road, was designed by the architect, James Miller. The drawing room was photographed in 1901 by the photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. This elegant, light-coloured room, with plaster pendants on the ceiling, was the principal reception room of the house. Here, the sliding doors to the adjoining library have been opened, thus extending the size of the room for large social gatherings. The average, moderately sized Edwardian house was planned in a manner that reflected the social preoccupations of the time with a drawing room in which to receive guests, a dining room, a library and, if possible, a billiard room and conservatory.
