Scope and Content Fort and temporary camps at Ardoch, Perth and Kinross This Roman fort and temporary camps are at Ardoch. The fort had several phases of occupation. Some of the camps are earlier than the fort, others later, reflecting the different Roman campaigns in Scotland. The fort is very well preserved. This is an aerial view of the site showing parts of four of the temporary camps. Three of these can be seen as cropmarks running down the middle of the image. Part of the largest camp can be seen in the top-left corner. The site has been excavated and surveyed times. The first century fort was larger than the second century forts, and had timber buildings. The garrison included the cohors I Hispanorum, originally from Spain. The later forts had some stone buildings. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
