Scope and Content Municipal Buildings (now the Council Offices), Nos 2-26 High Street, Perth The Municipal Buildings were designed in 1877-9 by the architect, Andrew Heiton Junior, to house the county council offices of Perthshire. The architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere, was commissioned to photograph the building in 1891. The county offices, designed in a Continental Flemish style, stand on the corner with Tay Street. The corner oriel window was loosely based on the tower of the ancient chapel of St Mary which formed part of the old town-house which stood on the site. The building has a splendid council chamber, a mock medieval hall with a hammerbeam roof and Baronial fireplace. Its stained glass windows illustrates scenes from Scott's 'The Fair Maid of Perth' and the capture of Perth by Robert the Bruce in 1313. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
