Scope and Content Detail of stained glass window on the ground floor of the stair hall, Vernonholme, Riverside Drive, Dundee Vernonholme is a two-storeyed villa designed in 1906 by architects Johnston & Baxter, for their client, Mr A P Mathewson, a manufacturer. The house retains many interior embellishments, such as stained glass and carved woodwork. This photograph shows part of a stained glass window, with a woman in Elizabethan dress with spinning wheel and distaff. Beneath her is the inscription 'TAK TENT O TIME, ERE TIME BE TINT, a warning that time passes quickly. This figure may represent Clotho, one of the three Fates from Greek mythology, who measure out life. She represents the future and holds the distaff for Lachesis (the present, who spins the thread of life) and Atropos (the past, who cuts it). Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
