Scope and Content View from south of Manager's House, Claverhouse Bleachworks, Barns of Claverhouse Road, Dundee This manager's house was built c.1830, in the style of architect James Black. It was the home of chemist Dr Henry Boase, managing partner of the bleachfield. The bleachworks buildings also survive, and include an office, yard, chimney and beetling house. This photograph shows the house in its elevated position, with a rockery below. The house has curving bays with conical roofs at each side, and bay windows on the ground floor. Dormer windows indicate attic rooms and a glass awning forms a verandah. The Claverhouse Bleachworks were established in the 18th century, and were the largest in Dundee during the 19th century. This impressive manager's house shows how wealthy the owners had become through the industry at this time. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
