Scope and Content Heriot Brewery, Roseburn Terrace, Edinburgh This brewery was built in 1880 for John Jeffrey of the old-established Heriot Brewery in the Grassmarket, and was originally known as Roseburn Brewery. Jeffreys remained independent until 1960, when they were taken over by United Breweries Ltd, who in turn merged with Charringtons in 1962. This shows the entrance to the brewery from Roseburn Terrace, with the offices on the left. In 1967 the brewery was brewing Tennents' beers for the east of Scotland, as the amalgamation with Charringtons had brought that brand into the combine. The Heriot Brewery continued in operation until the mid-1980s, and was demolished in 1989. The site has now been redeveloped for housing. Curiously, the office of its predecessor, in Nos 37-41 Grassmarket, built in 1858, has outlived the new brewery. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
