Scope and Content Buchanan Street Station, Glasgow The first station on this site was opened in 1849 by the Caledonian Railway, and was the terminus for its Anglo-Scottish services. The terminus was a temporary one, but lasted until the 1920s, when the London Midland & Scottish Railway rebuilt it, though still on a modest scale. This shows the station from the north-east, looking towards the buffer stops. On the left is part of the goods station, and on the right the steel frame of the new British Railways Scottish Region offices is taking shape. The awnings are the 1920s London Midland & Scottish ones. Buchanan Street Station was closed later in 1966 and its services diverted to Queen Street Station. Buchanan Street passenger station was demolished soon after closure, and the goods station had been demolished by 1971. The Glasgow Caledonian University and Buchanan Bus Station were built on the site. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
