Scope and Content Great Hall, Kildonan House, Barrhill, Ayrshire Kildonan House, an early 20th-century country house designed in the English Manorial Revival style, was built for Captain Euan Wallace, MP. The Great Hall of the house was photographed in c.1927 by the architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. The walls of the Great Hall are oak panelled, and the huge mullioned window, which offers splendid views across extensive parkland to the River Duisk, rises the full height of the house. The portrait above the fireplace is of Captain Wallace. The house has been described as 'the last great country house in the Gothic Revival tradition'. It was designed on an enormous scale by the eminent Glasgow architect, James Miller, and included a theatre and indoor tennis courts. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
