Scope and Content Lord Esher's Bedroom, the Roman Camp Hotel, Callander, Perthshire The Roman Camp Hotel was bought as a country house by Reginald, Viscount of Esher in c.1897. This photograph of Lord Escher's bedroom was taken in 1911 by the photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere, shortly after the house had been extensively remodelled. This comfortable, cottage-style room is lined with books and has a rather grand painted panel, decorated with cherubs and garlands, over the fireplace. Decorative plasterwork garlands adorn the wall above the dormer window that overlooks the garden. The house was sold for development as a hotel in 1939. This room, now called the 'Lady Esher' by the present owners, is the hotel's principal bedroom, and offers stunning views across the lawn to the wooded banks of the River Teith.
