Scope and Content Drawing Room, the Roman Camp Hotel, Callander, Perthshire This view of the drawing room of the Roman Camp Hotel was taken in 1911 by the distinguished architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere, when the house was the country retreat of Lord Esher, equerry to King George V. The drawing room, which overlooks the River Teith, has an elegant plasterwork ceiling, decorated with garlands, and a splendidly ornate fireplace. The furniture, ornaments and cushions may have been carefully positioned by Lemere for the photograph. Harry Bedford Lemere (1864-1944) was a perfectionist, taking a great deal of trouble in the composition of his pictures. He would spend time moving furniture and ornaments, and plumping out cushions until the photographic composition was right. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
