Scope and Content Garden and river at the Roman Camp Hotel, Callander, Perthshire This view of the garden and River Teith at the Roman Camp Hotel, Callander, was taken in 1911 by the architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere, when the house became the country retreat of Lord Esher, equerry to King George V. The house, built in a picturesque setting facing the river, is surrounded by 20 acres of garden grounds which run down to a riverbank walk. The River Teith provided the house with the opportunity for fly-fishing and boating. Harry Bedford Lemere (1864-1944), was one of the leading architectural photographers of his day, usually working under commission for private owners. He probably produced about 35,000 negatives in his long career, few of which survive today. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
