Scope and Content View of the tearoom kitchen, the New Picture House, Nos 56 Princes Street, Edinburgh The New Picture House, Princes Street, was opened in 1913 by Lady Piggott Redford, and offered the Edinburgh public a cinema complex that included two tea-rooms and a café. This picture of the tea room kitchen was taken in 1914 by Harry Bedford Lemere. This 'behind the scenes' view of the cinema's tea rooms shows the immaculately tidy kitchen with its huge tea urn. The neat arrangement of the shelves, and the loaves of bread on the preparation table may have been carefully laid out for the photograph. The architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere (1864-1944), worked to commission for private owners, architects and illustrated magazines. He was a perfectionist, often re-arranging furniture and objects until the photographic composition was right. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
