Scope and Content View from south of Grampian, Brimmond and Morven Courts, Balnagask Circle, Aberdeen These three blocks, each of 14 storeys, contain 156 flats in total. Building commenced in 1968 under A Hall, contractor for Aberdeen City Council. Three, identical tower blocks stand surrounded by medium-rise flats. In this photograph the individual pebble-dashed panels used for constructing the blocks can be clearly seen. Paler bands of concrete mark the division of each storey. The central vertical row of recessed triple-windows adds depth to the surface. Tower blocks, with their large scale, relay to a large extent on repetitive features in either horizontal or vertical strips for their visual impact. Recessed balconies, patterns of windows, and textures of various panels add interest to the design. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
