Scope and Content View from south-east of courtyard, Rosemount Square, Aberdeen Rosemount Square was designed by Leo Durnin for Aberdeen City Council in 1938, and built 1945-6. It was the last all-granite tenement to be built in the city, and won a Saltire award in 1948. This photograph shows the four-storeyed, semi-oval block of flats, with their balconies and steel-framed windows, arranged around a courtyard. The entry stairs are reached from this side of the block, through archways from the other side. This curved block of council-built flats is notable for its striking Art Deco design, which includes bas-reliefs representing 'wind' and 'rain' by Thomas Bayliss Huxley-Jones.
