Scope and Content Mauchline Station, Station Road, Mauchline, East Ayrshire The first station at Mauchline was opened in 1848 by the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock & Ayr Railway. It was rebuilt by the Glasgow & South Western Railway possibly for the opening of the Catrine branch in 1903. The station was also the junction for direct services to Ayr, a line opened in 1870. This shows the station from the north-west. The south-bound platform is on the left, and the island platform on the right served mainline north-bound trains on this face, and branch-line services on its outer face. The footbridge is typical of the period 1890-1914. This station was closed in about 1966, when local services between Kilmarnock and Dumfries were withdrawn. The buildings were still in excellent condition when they were photographed, but they have since been demolished. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
