Scope and Content View of Composition Room (Studio 58), Glasgow School of Art, No 167 Renfrew Street, Glasgow The composition room of the Glasgow School of Art sits on the second floor of the building directly above the library. The interior, photographed in 1910 by Harry Bedford Lemere, shows the simplicity of its stone, brick and timber construction. The studio has a roof lit by two large windows and supported by a Japanese-like beam construction. The walls are of untreated stone and brick, and its three western windows, set in embrasures, form the 'eyebrows' of the three tall library windows below. The composition room, shown here in Lemere's photograph with two easels set up for painting, was not originally designed as a painting studio as it is lit by a large south-facing window which would not give the constant, even light required for painting.
