Scope and Content View from south-west of Moss Heights during construction, Glasgow Moss Heights was built between 1950 and 1954, by Glasgow Corporation Housing Department. It comprises three long ten-storeyed, concrete-framed slab blocks and low-rise blocks, standing on raised ground overlooking Pollok Park in the distance. This photograph shows the blocks under construction in February 1953. Two blocks are almost complete, and scaffolding covers the buildings. Below them can be seen four-storeyed blocks, semi-detached cottages, and a solitary Victorian house. After World War II, Glasgow needed to re-house large numbers of people who were living in sub-standard accommodation. Moss Heights was built as an experiment in high rise housing, along with Crathie Court, which was built between 1949 and 1952. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
