Scope and Content View from west of Nos 953-71 Argyle Street and Nos 1, 3 and 7 Finnieston Street, Glasgow This four-storeyed tenement block was built c.1853, possibly to designs by the firm of Gildard & Macfarlane. The block comprised dwellings for several families who used a communal access stair. The bow windows denote high quality, spacious flats. This photograph shows the Classical frontage, with its bow-fronted north-west end which terminates in a balustrade at the wall-head. The third-floor windows have semicircular heads with keystones. This tenement block stood out from many others in Glasgow for its bow-fronted frontage. Its design allowed some of the residents a more elegant, spacious room within their flats. It was demolished in 1971. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
