Scope and Content View from south-east of Nos 8-13 Belmont Crescent, Glasgow Belmont Crescent was built from 1869 to 1870 to designs by John Honeyman (1831-1914). It is a sweeping crescent of Classical terraced houses with their own gardens, set back from the road, each house having steps over the basement. This photograph shows the central 'pavilion', a taller section used to give variety and focus to the curve of the crescent. Each house has ornamental railings, banded rustication, and a geometric design is carved on the eaves-course. The interiors of these houses have fine ironwork stairs, elaborate plasterwork and grand fireplaces. The crescent originally had taller blocks at each end, to match the central 'pavilion', but these collapsed during construction. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
