Scope and Content Old Bridge Street Station, Nos 14-14b Bridge Street, Glasgow This station was opened in 1841 as the Glasgow terminus of the Glasgow & Paisley Joint Railway. It was designed by James Collie, architect, with a large office block at street level, and with the platforms on a viaduct approached by stairs inside the building. This shows the frontage of Collie's building from the north-east. The only recognisable parts are the two pavilions which flanked a Doric portico, which had been removed in about 1950. The building on the right had been used as an hotel in connection with the station. This original station was almost completely demolished in the late 1880s, when a replacement station was built with its offices further south. This was in turn largely demolished when Central Station was enlarged between 1899 and 1905. The fragment in this view was demolished in about 1970. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
