Scope and Content Glasgow Copper Works, No 86 Tradeston Street, Glasgow This works was built in 1876 for Miller & Pyle, coppersmiths. The firm soon became John Miller & Co. There was plenty of work for coppersmiths in the area, as several leading firms of sugar-machinery manufacturers were nearby. This shows the building from the north-east. The red and white brick construction was typical of the period. Note the large arched doorway on the left, indicating that the works was designed to produce large items like stills and vacuum pans. This works had latterly been used as an oil works in 1965, but was disused and decaying in 1965. Soon afterwards it was brought back into use, and to make it look more modern the walls were harled, so that it is now unrecognisable. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
